             abstract = "Este trabalho tem por objetivo observar a evolu{\c{c}}{\~a}o do 
                         processo de ocupa{\c{c}}{\~a}o humana em Novo Progresso (PA), um 
                         munic{\'{\i}}pio na fronteira Amaz{\^o}nica, a partir do estudo 
                         da evolu{\c{c}}{\~a}o espacial dos n{\'u}cleos de 
                         ocupa{\c{c}}{\~a}o humana e da convers{\~a}o da floresta, de 
                         2000 a 2010. Dados de sensoriamento remoto foram usados para 
                         identificar a evolu{\c{c}}{\~a}o das unidades indicativas de 
                         presen{\c{c}}a humana e ferramentas de geoprocessamento para 
                         descrever a din{\^a}mica de organiza{\c{c}}{\~a}o do 
                         espa{\c{c}}o. Como resultado, o munic{\'{\i}}pio apresentou 
                         diferentes din{\^a}micas temporais com diminui{\c{c}}{\~a}o das 
                         taxas de desmatamento e aumento da popula{\c{c}}{\~a}o urbana. A 
                         estrutura et{\'a}ria da popula{\c{c}}{\~a}o refletiu o efeito 
                         de pol{\'{\i}}ticas adotadas para a regi{\~a}o, como a 
                         instala{\c{c}}{\~a}o do Distrito Florestal Sustent{\'a}vel da 
                         BR163. A an{\'a}lise da distribui{\c{c}}{\~a}o espacial dos 
                         dados demogr{\'a}ficos, das unidades de ocupa{\c{c}}{\~a}o 
                         obtidos por sensoriamento remoto, e da taxa de desmatamento em 
                         rela{\c{c}}{\~a}o aos setores censit{\'a}rios permitiu 
                         diferenciar duas regi{\~o}es no munic{\'{\i}}pio. A regi{\~a}o 
                         oeste, onde a popula{\c{c}}{\~a}o e o desmatamento 
                         diminu{\'{\i}}ram em fun{\c{c}}{\~a}o da cria{\c{c}}{\~a}o 
                         de unidades de conserva{\c{c}}{\~a}o; e a regi{\~a}o leste que 
                         tornou-se ainda mais din{\^a}mica, com aumento populacional e 
                         concentra{\c{c}}{\~a}o do desmatamento pela influ{\^e}ncia da 
                         BR163. A caracteriza{\c{c}}{\~a}o espacial da din{\^a}mica da 
                         popula{\c{c}}{\~a}o e do desmatamento do munic{\'{\i}}pio de 
                         Novo Progresso, contribui para entender os processos atuantes na 
                         organiza{\c{c}}{\~a}o do territ{\'o}rio, o que pode auxiliar o 
                         planejamento de a{\c{c}}{\~o}es espec{\'{\i}}ficas para o 
                         desenvolvimento local. ABSTRACT: In the last years, the general 
                         intense Brazilian urbanization process has also been observed for 
                         the Amazon region, leading to different territorial confi 
                         guration. This work aims to describe the process of human 
                         occupation in a frontier municipality - Novo Progresso, in the 
                         state of Par{\'a} (Brazilian Amazon), based on the spatial 
                         distribution of its population, human settlements, and forest 
                         conversion from 2000 to 2010. Remote sensing data enabled the 
                         mapping of human settlements and its evolution. Geoinformation 
                         tools allowed data integration and the observation of the spatial 
                         evolution. While the dynamics of population, and the occupation 
                         nuclei increased at Novo Progresso, deforestation rates 
                         diminished. The age pyramid revealed a migration process that 
                         could be associated with the policy of deforestation restraint, as 
                         the establishment of the BR163 Sustainable Forest District. The 
                         spatial evolution of demographic distribution, settlements and 
                         deforestation areas over census tracts evidenced two main regions 
                         inside the municipality. In the western area, population and 
                         deforestation diminished because the creation of conservation 
                         units; and in the eastern area population increased and 
                         deforestation concentrated due to the access that BR-163 road 
                         provides. The spatial characterization of population and 
                         deforestation distribution in Novo Progresso contributes to 
                         understand the processes that change the territory and this 
                         analysis can provide useful information for local development 
                         planning.",
